Superstar Rajinikanth Honoured With Dada Saheb Phalke Award

 

The Centre chose Rajinikanth for the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award for the year 2020, and he received the coveted award on Monday.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019 was supposed to be announced last year but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as were the National Film Awards for 2019. The famous Dadasaheb Phalke award, which is given for excellence in cinematic achievement and is given by the government, is the greatest honor in the film industry.

It’ll be a double celebration, as his daughter Soundarya Vishagan will unveil “Hoote,” a voice-based social networking platform, which she describes as a “useful tool” for people.

“Tomorrow is a big occasion for me with two particular markers,” Rajinikanth, who left for Delhi on Sunday, said in a statement the day before, “…the Government of India has bestowed upon me the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in recognition of the people’s love and support.”

Superstar Rajinikanth and his son-in-law, actor Dhanush, won big at the 67th National Film Awards event on Monday, October 26. Rajnikanth’s daughter, Aishwaryaa, and his wife expressed their happiness on their Instagram handle. She expressed her joy on Instagram with a post titled “proud daughter and wife.” Aishwaryaa tweeted two photographs of the superstars flaunting their medals, which she dubbed “history.”

Rajinikanth received the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award, while Dhanush, Rajinikanth’s son-in-law, got the National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in Asuran. Following the presentation event, Aishwaryaa proceeded to Instagram to share photos of both the men displaying their medals. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu delivered the awards. This is the first time that the same family has received two awards.

Rajinikanth dedicated his Dadasaheb Phalke Award to his mentor, K Balachander sir, as well as his brother, Sathyanarayana Rao Gaekwad, a bus driver buddy who recognized Rajinikanth’s acting skills when he was a bus conductor, and his fans and industry colleagues.

Dhanush received his prize alongside Manoj Bajpayee, who was also named Best Actor for his role as Bhonsle.

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is one of India’s most prestigious award in the field of cinema. It is presented yearly during the National Film Awards event by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation founded by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. A committee of prominent Indian film industry figures selects the winner for their “significant contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema”. The winner is bestowed with a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of Rs. 1,000,000 (US$13,000) as prize.  

On Monday morning, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu presented the 67th National Film Awards. Rajinikanth earned the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award, while Manoj Bajpayee, Kangana Ranaut, and Dhanush received acting prizes.

The best feature film has been awarded to Priyadarshan’s Marakkar: Lion of the Arabian Sea, while Chhichhore, starring the late Sushant Singh Rajput, won the Best Hindi Film Award.

The 67th National Film Awards was announcedin March 2021, to honour the greatest achievements of Indian cinema, for the year 2019, as due to the epidemic, the awards were postponed.

Kangana Ranaut received the prestigious National Award for her films ‘Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi’ and ‘Panga’. She has been honoured with her fourth National Award.

“Today I earned my fourth National award for my films Manikarnika – The Queen of Jhansi and Panga,” the actress wrote on her social media account, alongside a collection of photos from the event. “This is the highest honour an artist can receive in this country, and I feel incredibly fortunate, privileged, and happy…My heartfelt gratitude goes out to the crews behind these films who made it possible”, she concluded.
