The much anticipated Video Music Awards or VMAs has finally announced the show’s date of airing. Just 11 hours ago, on Wednesday, August 11, they released their list of nominees, and from what we can see, there’s a nice spread this year. With the spread including many artists, we have Justin Bieber, Megan Thee Stallion, Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, and even the First time nominee Olivia Rodrigo. Marking the 3rd year since the show bought the “Best K-pop” category, which was greatly criticized and deemed controversial, we have the nominees BTS, (G)I-DLE, BLACKPINK, Monsta X, SEVENTEEN, TWICE.
Said to be held on September 12th at 8 p.m. ET and 5:30 a.m. IST, be sure to set your alarms if you want to catch your favourite celebs aired live from the Barclays Center in New York City. Since deciding to go online last year due to the pandemic, this year, the show is said to follow its traditional method of an audience-filled show following the current safety regulations and rules.
Marking the 40th anniversary of the show, it is going back to its standard format while sticking to the safety regulations and rules. The show is said to be filled with an audience, provided they comply with the rules. All the audience and artists should wear masks throughout the show and be fully vaccinated, i.e. with both the doses and have a recent Covid -19 negative test.
Seeing this year’s nomination, we can see that the front row is taken by Justin Bieber and Megan Thee Stallion, nominated for seven and six awards, respectively. With them in the lead, we are pleased to see Kpop sensation BTS standing in with five nominations, quite a remarkable feat for the septet group. BTS has been nominated for “Song of the year”, “Best Pop”, “Best K-pop”, “Best Choreography”, and “Best Editing”, and in the best k-pop category, they are head to head with other big names in the industry. Following them, we can see Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, and Taylor Swift with three nominations.
Fans can start casting their vote in the 14 categories on Wednesday on the MTV site. For those who wish to watch the show’s live airing, be sure to catch it on various CBS Viacom networks such Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, Paramount, or even Vhs. This show is said to be the first audience-filled show this year since the city’s opening. So be sure to cast your vote and catch your favourite celebs as they strut on that red carpet.
