Vidyut Jammwal is an actor, martial artist, stuntman, and action choreographer. Since the dawn of his career in the film industry, he has given us some pretty good movies that were worth watching. Here are some pretty interesting facts about his life that fans have to know.

Vidyut’s life serves as an inspiration for many. Born in Kanpur-Uttar Pradesh, he was brought up in Jammu and Kashmir. He is one of the 3 children born to an Army officer, hence, he travelled a lot as a kid. His father passed away when he was a child. He completed his schooling at Army Public School, Dagshai, Himachal Pradesh. 

Known for his mind-blowing fight choreographies, Vidyut started learning kalaripayattu, an ancient form of martial arts that originated in India, at a very tender age of 3 years. He trained himself at a Kalari in Palakkad, Kerala, which was managed by his mother, Vimla Jammwal. He has shown a very keen interest in this field since then.

Vidyut has travelled to and contested in 30 different countries, participated in a lot of action shows and has also trained himself in some other forms of martial arts which are based on Kalaripayattu. He was also declared as one of the best martial artists in the world a while ago. No wonder he holds a formal degree in martial arts.

Vidyut visited the Shaolin Temple to honour the statue of the great Bodhi Dharma, the great master who is credited for spreading the knowledge of kalaripayattu in China. He was a part of a one-week martial arts camp that was meant for experts only. He is also a rock climber. He has started an initiative to teach self-defence techniques to college-going girls and working professionals. Jammwal hosted a camp at a college festival in Mumbai in 2014. 

Many of us din’t know that he is a vegetarian. Back in 2018, the actor showed off his muscular physique alongside the words “kick the meat habit, go vegan!”, in a PETA campaign for India’s national nutritional week. He has been adjudged the hottest vegetarian celebrity along with Kangna Ranaut, by PETA.

On 1st September 2021, Vidyut got engaged to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani; he had previously been married to actress Mona Singh.

Jammwal made his debut in Bollywood in 2011, starring along actor John Abraham in Nishikant Kamat’s action movie, “Force”, which turned out to be a big hit. The movie was a remake of the Tamil movie “Kaakha Kaakha”. He was the antagonist in the story and was felicitated with multiple best male debut awards which included the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. Since then, he has bagged multiple negative roles in various action films. 

He was featured in a negative role in the Telugu films Shakti and Oosaravelli, both of which starred actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao Jr. He made his debut in Tamil cinema with Billa II, as an antagonist. Actor Ajith Kumar starred as the protagonist in the movie. He also played the antagonist in the movie Thuppakki, opposite actor Vijay and the movie turned out to be a blockbuster. He has also bagged the SIIMA Award for the Best Actor in the Negative Role for the film. 

The movie “Commando” was a turning point in his career. Starring as the protagonist, the movie was screened internationally in July 2013, at the Fantasia Film Festival, Montreal, which was then followed by a screening at the Fantastic Fest in Texas in 2013. He performed a lot of real-life combat-based action and breathtaking stunts without the aid of stuntmen. He was critically appreciated by the international media. Action directors referred to him as “India’s answer to Bruce Lee and Tony Jaa”.

The sequel of the movie followed in 2017, which was a box office hit. He has also starred in American Director Chuck Russell’s first Bollywood film Junglee. Tigmanshu Dhulia’s “Yaara” followed as his next project, which was an official remake of the French film, “Les Lyonnais”. 

Khuda Haafiz, released in 2020 featured Vidyut as a protagonist again and became his biggest opener ever. The film is based on real-life events. He has recently completed shooting the sequel, Khuda Haafiz Chapter 2, and the viewers can expect the movie to be in the theatres soon. His recent projects include the action-thriller Sanak.
