Every Indian household knows Hina Khan’s name. Some may know her as Akshara, some as Komolika, and some as Nageswari. In 2020, Hina made her Bollywood debut on the big screen with the movie Hacked. The stride wasn’t easy, but Hina Khan came across.

Today, let’s have a look at Hina Khan’s journey, from small screen to big screen

Hina Khan

Hina Khan’s journey began in 2008 when she auditioned for the reality show Indian Idol. She made it to the Top 30. She then auditioned for the role of Akshara Singhania in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. She was selected, and the show turned out to be Hina’s big break.

Hina said that she had to work very hard as she was new to the industry and acting. The first episode was premiered on 12 January 2009. The show was well-loved by the audience and received high TRP. Hina Khan’s Sanskari Bahu avatar was loved by all, and she became a household name.

She played the character Akshara for eight years. She received four awards for her performance in the show, two Indian Television Academy (ITA) Awards, and two Indian Telly Awards. In 2016, she quit the show as she felt her life had become monotonous, and she wanted a break.

In 2017, she came back on television as a contestant on colours in the reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi: Pain in Spain (season 8). Rohit Shetty hosted the show. The series started on 22 July 2017.

Hina’s performance on the show was appreciated. She aced the first three weeks by winning every stunt thrown her way. In the 4th week, Girls vs Boys week, she was the captain of team Girls. This is the show where she was given the name Sher Khan. Her singing skills were applauded as Rohit Shetty asked her to sing Lag Jaa Gale while performing a task. She emerged as the 1st runner-up of the show. She later tweeted that the show changed her as a person and made her strong mentally.

Later in 2017, she entered the Bigg Boss house as a contestant. Though she was part of many controversies, she was one of the most popular contestants on the show. She got into many arguments with Shilpa Shinde and made many controversial statements throughout the show.

Yet, she performed the tasks phenomenally and put up a tough fight. Due to her dressing style and the way she carried her outfit, Hina became a fashionista. She emerged as the 1st runner-up of the show. Gold Awards awarded her the Style Diva award in 2018.

After being part of two reality shows back to back, Hina returned to working in daily soap Kasautii Zindagii Kay as Komolika Chaubey. Here defying her Sanskari bahu image, she played a negative role and received praise from the audience.

She received two Indian Telly awards and one Gold Award for her portrayal of Komolika. She later quit the show due to prior commitments for another project.

In 2020, her first short film Smartphone was released. Her first Web series, Damaged 2, also came out in the same year.

She was also part of many music videos such as BhasoodiRannjhanaHumko Tum Mil GayeBedardBaarish Ban Jana and Patthar Wargi.

Later that year, she made her Bollywood debut with Hacked. She played the role of Sameera Khanna. The movie’s plot focuses on the problems she faces when a neighbour named Vivek becomes obsessed with her.

She was also a part of the movie Unlock which was released on ZEE5 due to pandemic. She played the lead opposite Kushal Tandon.

In 2021, she played a cameo in season 5 of the famous series Naagin. She played Adi Naagin Nageswari, who dies and then returns 10,000 years later as Bani (played by Surbhi Chandna) to seek revenge.

Her latest movie, Lines, which she is also co-producing, was released on 29 July on Voot. Farida Jalal is also an essential part of the movie.

From Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai to Lines, Hina Khan has come a long way. She still has a long way to go.
