The top 10 highest-grossing Bollywood movies of all time are:

1. Dangal (2016)

Dangal, a 2016 blockbuster directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is a biographical sports drama starring Aamir Khan, Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Shaikh, Zaira Wasim, Sanya Malhotra, Suhani Bhatnagar, and Aparshakti Khurana.

Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari are trained by their father, Mahavir Singh Phogat (Aamir Khan), to become India’s first world-class female wrestlers. The movie is based on the accurate tale of the Phogat family.

The movie, after its release, turned out to be a shakedown to the box office as it broke multiple records and became the highest-grossing movie of Bollywood.

2. Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015)

Kabir Khan directed Bajrangi Bhaijaan, a 2015 Indian Hindi-language comedy-drama film.

It tells the story of Pawan Kumar Chaturvedi (Salman Khan), a profoundly religious Hindu devotee of the Hindu deity Hanuman, who embarks on a journey to reconnect a mute six-year-old Pakistani Muslim girl Shahida (Harshaali Malhotra) to her hometown in Pakistan after being separated from her parents in India.

3. Secret Superstar (2017)

Worldwide Gross: ₹966.86 crores (US$154 million)

It was written and directed by Advait Chandan. A young girl who dreams of being a singer uploads videos to YouTube while hiding her identity with a niqab. Her relationships with her mother, father, and mentor are also explored in the film.

Among the topics addressed in the movie are feminism, gender equality, and domestic violence. Critics gave the movie primarily positive reviews.

4. PK (2014)

It was directed by Rajkumar Hirani and written by him and Abhijat Joshi in 2014. Under the labels Rajkumar Hirani Films and Vinod Chopra Films, the film was jointly produced by Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

After an alien arrives on Earth on a research trip, his spaceship’s remote control is stolen and sold to a godman, leading to the plot’s conclusion. In his effort to retrieve the remote, he befriends a television journalist and confronts religious dogmas and superstitions.

The plot revolves around a humanoid alien who becomes stranded on Earth, the planet he was sent to investigate. He encounters various aspects of humanity during his travels, including faiths, customs, dialects, clothing, behaviors, and beliefs.

After its release, PK was able to get the tag of the highest-grossing Bollywood movie of all time. However, it has lost its title over the year and dropped down to its current number 4 position.

5. Sultan (2016)

Ali Abbas Zafar directed Sultan, a 2016 Hindi-language sports drama film. Salman Khan plays the title character in this Yash Raj Films production alongside Anushka Sharma. A Haryana pehlwani wrestler and former world champion, Sultan Ali Khan, is the film’s central character. The story starts with the journey of the sultan to becoming a world champion causing drift in his personal life.

6. Sanju (2018)

An Indian biographical comedy-drama film, Sanju, was released in the Hindi language in 2018. The life of Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, from drug addiction to arrest for involvement in the 1993 Bombay bombings, to come back in the industry and eventual dismissal of all charges related to the Bombay bombings has been portrayed in the movie.

After Sanjay Dutt’s mother Nargis’ nickname for him, the film was titled Sanju.

7. Padmaavat (2018)

Sanjay Leela Bhansali directed the 2018 Indian Hindi-language epic period drama film Padmaavat. In the movie, Deepika Padukone plays Rani Padmavati, a Rajput queen noted for her beauty and the wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh, played by Shahid Kapoor, and is based on Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s epic poem of the same name. 

When Sultan Alauddin Khilji, played by Ranveer Singh, hears about her beauty, he invades her realm to enslave her. Padmaavat was met with mixed reactions. Critics complimented the cinematography, photography, and Singh’s portrayal of the wicked Khilji, but they faulted the storyline, execution, length, and adherence to regressive patriarchal mores.

8. Tiger Zinda Hai (2018)

Tiger Zinda Hai, the sequel to Ek Tha Tiger (2012), is an Indian action thriller espionage film released in 2018. In ‘Tiger Zinda Hai,’ Tiger (Salman Khan) and Zoya (Katrina Kaif) are forced to come out of hiding to liberate a group of captives held by a militant terrorist organization in Iraq.

Tiger Zinda Hai garnered mostly positive reviews upon its release, with applause for its action and Khan’s acting, but criticism for its length and dialogue. A sequel to the film is in making wherein Emraan Hashmi is playing the villain in the movie.

9. Dhoom 3 (2013)

Dhoom 3, the third and last part of the Dhoom series, is an action heist thriller movie where the story revolves around a thief (Aamir Khan) who aims to destroy a bank and two Indian cops, Jai and Ali (role reprised by Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra respectively) who are called by local police to catch the thief.

10. War (2019)

War starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff is Siddharth Anand directs an action thriller 2019 film. The film was initially titled Fighters before being renamed War, with the release of the official teaser trailer on July 15, 2019.

The plot revolves around an Indian soldier (Tiger Shroff) tasked with assassinating his former master (Hrithik Roshan), who has gone rogue. The film was a big success at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2019.
