Here are 10 medical dramas that are based around doctors or set in hospitals:

1. Casualty

The longest-running medical drama in the world, this British series first premiered in 1986. It was created by Jeremy Brock and Paul Unwin and featured an ensemble cast including Derek Thompson, Amanda Mealing, Cathy Shipton, and George Rainsford.

The show is set in the Accident & Emergency Department of the fictional Holby City Hospital. It follows a group of doctors, nurses, attendants, and paramedics who work in that division.

The show’s popularity gave rise to multiple spin-off shows. It also has been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades.

Created by Michael Crichton, this series premiered in 1994 and ran for 331 episodes, concluding in 2009. Set in the County General Hospital of Chicago, the series followed medical practitioners working in the hospital’s emergency room. It dealt with both their personal and professional lives.

The series follows a group of medical officers working in the Boston teaching hospital where the lower floors are haunted by spirits of patients from the Civil War era. An inter,n Dr. Mitchell Grace (McCouch) decides to investigate these “haunted” rooms.

The series had a low viewership but received a positive response from critics.

The series followed John “J.D.” Dorian (Braff), a medical intern at the fictional teaching hospital Sacred Heart, and his comical daydreams.

The last episode of season eight was considered the finale, but the series was renewed for a ninth season. The ninth season sported the subtitle “Med School,” The setting was moved to a medical school, with several new members joining the cast. Bishé became the narrator in place of Braff.

The series follows Dr. Gregory House (Laurie), a medical genius and leader of the diagnostics team at the fictional Princeton–Plainsboro Teaching Hospital (PPTH) in New Jersey. House often comes in conflict with his colleagues due to his unconventional ways and frequently flouts hospital rules. He also is heavily dependent on pain meds.
