Sonu Sood is an Indian Bollywood actor and producer. He has worked in numerous films in various languages like Kannada, Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Punjabi, and Hindi film. Sonu was born on July 30th, 1973. He has a net worth of about ?1.8 crores. Sonu is very attached to his parents, Shakti Sood and Saroj Sood. When Sonu’s father passed away, he was very devastated by that loss. He had also written an open letter to his father that his father could not see him play an army man on-screen before death. Sonu has two sons with his wife Sonali, namely Ayaan Sood and Ishant Sood. Sonu has worked with several actors like Shahrukh Khan and Jackie Chan. He is said to be a good friend of Jackie Chan. Sonu Sood is one of the actors in Bollywood who started their career from scratch. Sood was born in the city of Moga in Punjab on 30 July 1973. His mother was a teacher, whereas his father had a textile business, according to Mumbai Mirror.

After Sonu finished school, he worked at his father’s showroom in Moga for some time. He completed his graduation Engineering in Electronics from Yeshwantro Chavan college of Engineering Nagpur. He started his career with modeling during the second year of college. His first modeling assignment earned him five hundred Rupees, which he used to purchase denim. Sonu Sood deputed in Indian Bollywood cinema with the film Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. This movie also brought critical acclaim for the actor. After graduation, the actor moved to Mumbai and participated in the mister India contest for which he got rupees 450 only. He lived with several other boys in Bombay’s one-bedroom apartment before seeing any significant rise in his career.


Early Life and Acting Career

He developed a great interest in acting after participating in modeling events in the college — Yeshwantrao Chavan — in Nagpur. He came to Mumbai after completing his graduation in the 1990s to become an actor. However, he wanted to take severe steps, and hence he started modeling in Mumbai. Sonu Sood began his acting career in 1999 with the Tamil film, ‘Kallazhagar’ as Soumya Narayanan. He has worked in a Telugu film, ‘Hands Up!.’ ‘Shaheed-E-Azam’ was his Bollywood debut in 2002, where he played the role of ‘Bhagat Singh.’ He came into the spotlight after playing Abhishek Bachchan‘s brother’s role in the Bollywood film ‘Yuva.’ In 2005, he starred in the Telugu film “Super” and gained immense popularity. Subsequently, he has appeared in many Telugu films, like Athadu, Ashok, Arundhati, Ek Niranjan, and Shakti. Sonu Sood’s significant share of fame comes from his work in Dabangg as a villain. The portrayal of Chedi Singh in the 2010 Salman Khan-starrer Dabangg has outshined all his other performances.

During his film career, Sood has starred in blockbuster films such as Simmba with Ranveer Singh, Happy New Year with Shah Rukh Khan, and Kung Fu Yoga with the international actor Jackie Chan. Sonu Sood also launched his own production house named Shakti Sagar Productions in 2016. He called the production house after his father. Sonu Sood has supported the underprivileged masses through his initiatives and given his voice to different causes, including the fight scenes against drug addiction in Punjab. In 2016, Sonu launched the Saroj initiative to help the acid attack survivors; since then, he has been committed to helping these survivors and other differently-abled people. He named the initiative after his mother, Saroj Sood.

Last year, Sonu Sood sponsored a team of differently-abled students who competed at the Special Olympics Asia Pacific Unified Badminton Championship in Bangkok. He paid for their travel and accommodation in Bangkok. Sonu even went to Sri Lanka to attend a fan’s wedding as it was her lifelong dream. In April, Sonu also launched an initiative called Shakti Annadanam, named after his late father, Mr. Shakti Sood. This initiative aims to provide more than 150,000 meals daily to the underprivileged people in Mumbai. In May 2020, Sonu also arranged for a chartered flight to take 150 stranded women laborers from an Ernakulam, Kerala-based factory to their home state, Odisha.

Sonu used to drop his photograph to casting directors in film studios in search of work. He got the award for his first film in 1999 when director Bharathi offered him a lead role in Kallazhagar. Apart from being a model and actor, Sood is also a film producer. Moreover, Sood also has a family-owned- hotel named Shakti Sagar near Iskcon in Juhu Mumbai. He recently offered his hotel to local authorities to use for paramedical forces fighting coronavirus.

Sonu Sood has, now, become the messiah of thousands of migrant workers in India. He is on a mission to send the migrants walking barefoot for thousands of miles to their respective homes.
In 2020 Sonu Sood help migrant workers through the humanitarian crisis caused due to the covid-19 pandemic. The lesser-known fact is that Sonu Sood capitalized funds to help these migrant workers with food and means to go back home by mortgaging his houses in Mumbai. Though Sonu Sood was born in a Punjabi family, he was raised in Nagpur.

Sonu is a free-spirited person and is known for his calm and composed nature. However, during Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika, Sonu Sood was alleged to leave the movie as he did not wanted to work under a female director. He denied such charges.

1. Sonu Sood started modeling in the second year of his college life. His very first modeling assignment got him five hundred Rupees, which he used to buy jeans.
2. When he came to Mumbai,
he worked in a private company in South Mumbai, and since his job involved fieldwork, he had a monthly train pass. He stayed in a one-room apartment with other boys.
3. Sonu Sood keeps his personal life away from the eyes of the media. He is very particular about that.
4. Sonu Sood has some resemblance with Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. It is also why he had played the role of Abhishek’s brother in Yuva.
5. Sonu is a pure vegetarian. He does not smoke or drink alcohol. He believes in living a healthy lifestyle. He maintains a strict fitness routine.
