Ranbir Kapoor born on 28th September 1982) is an Indian film actor. He is one of Bollywood’s highest-paid actors and has featured in Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list since 2012. Ranbir Kapoor is one of the recipients of several awards, including six Film fare Awards. Ranbir Kapoor is the son of actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, and he is the grandson of actor and director Raj Kapoor. Ranbir Kapoor learned film making at the School of Visual Arts and method acting at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. He also assisted Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the film Black (2005). He made his acting debut with Bhansali’s tragic-romance Saawariya (2007), and it became a critical and commercial failure. He was prominent in 2009 with his performances in the coming of his age film Wake Up Sid, the romantic and comedy Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, and the drama Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year. His most widely seen movie in this period came with the political drama Raajneeti (2010). Then he played the romantic drama Rockstar (2011) role, in which he played a troubled musician, and the comedy-drama film Barfi! In 2012, he played a cheerful deaf and mute man in which he earned two consecutive Best Actor awards at Film fare. A starring role which was opposite Deepika Padukone in the romantic and comedy film Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) gave him a leading Bollywood actor. He followed these roles in a series of films that did not perform well commercially except for the romance Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). This was changed in 2018 when Ranbir Kapoor played the role of Sanjay Dutt in Rajkumar Hirani’s biopic film Sanju, one of the highest-grossing Indian movies of all time, for which he won another Film fare Award for the Best Actor. Bollywoood Career
Following the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali cast Kapoor as the protagonist of his 2007 tragic and romance film Saawariya alongside Sonam Kapoor and Rani Mukerji. The film explains a tramp story, played by him, who falls obsessively in love with a woman waiting for her lover’s return. In an interview in the news and entertainment portal, Rediff.com Ranbir Kapoor stated that his character was seen as a tribute to his grandfather’s iconic roles as a tramp. Saawariya movie was the first Indian film to be produced by a Hollywood Sony Pictures Entertainment studio and was a highly anticipated release. However, the film critics were disappointed with the pictures, with BBC’s Jaspreet Pandohar calling it a “misfire on a massive scale.” CNN IBN’s Rajeev Masand considered that it was “contrived and fake” but was impressed by Kapoor’s “affable charm,” he further wrote that “he’s got that star quality to him which is so rare to find. But at the box office, Saawariya film failed to earn profits. However, at the annual Film fare Awards ceremony Ranbir Kapoor was awarded a Best Male Debut trophy.


After the commercial failure of the film Saawariya, Ranbir Kapoor gets contracted by Yash Raj Films for a role in the Siddharth Anand directed romantic and comedy Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008). The film was Ranbir Kapoor’s first commercial success in which depicted his role as a womanizer who is romantically involved with three women. Kapoor made three film releases in 2009. Bollywood Hungama’s Taran Adarsh reviewed that Kapoor’s performance in the film proved that he was “amongst the best in the business today.” Kapoor then next starred opposite Katrina Kaif in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani.A slapstick comedy from director Rajkumar Santoshi in the year 2009 that emerges the fourth highest-grossing Bollywood film. Film critic Gaurav Malani appreciated Kapoor’s flair for comedy but criticized him for “over excited husky baritone.” Kapoor was finally released that year with the Shimit Amin-directed Rocket Singh and Salesman of the Year, a drama movie about a Sardar who aspires to be a salesman. Film critic Mayank Shekhar appreciated the film and found Kapoor’s performance to be very “astonishingly sincere,” but the film earned little revenue at the box office. Kapoor later gets highly disappointed by the film’s commercial failure. At the 55th Film fare Awards, he was awarded the Film fare Critics Award for the Best Actor for his outstanding performances in all three hits of his 2009 releases, and he has also honored two Best Actor nominations at the Filmfare ceremony for Wake Up Sid and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani.


Background and lifestyle
His elder sister Riddhima was born in 1980. She is an interior and fashion designer. Actor Randhir Kapoor is his maternal uncle, and his daughters are actresses Karisma Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, his first cousins. Ranbir completed his schooling at the Bombay Scottish School in Mahim. As a student, he had less interest in academics and would also rank lowest among his peers. However, he stated that his performance is better in sports, particularly football. Kapoor has been vocal about his parent’s troubled marriage how it affected him as a child: “Sometimes their fights get bad. He would be sitting on the steps, his head between his knees, till five or six in the morning, waited for them to stop their fights”. At an early age, Kapoor was very close to his mother, but he had a dysfunctional relationship with his father. After completing his (Graduation) pre-university education from the H.R. College of Commerce and Economics, Kapoor relocated to New York City to learn film-making at the School of Visual Arts and subsequently pursued his acting method at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. In film school, Kapoor directed and played a role in two short films, entitled Passion and Love and India 1964.
